Volleyball Albury Wodonga had a standout weekend at the 2025 Volleyball Victoria Country Championships, held in Bendigo from 6–9 June at the impressive Red Energy Arena.
Hosted by Volleyball Victoria and The City of Greater Bendigo, the Country Championships is the premier annual indoor tournament for regional Victorian affiliates. With a proud tradition spanning over 50 years, the event brings together hundreds of athletes, officials, volunteers, and supporters from across the state for a weekend of high-level volleyball.
This year, our women’s team delivered a flawless campaign, topping their pool and going undefeated across the tournament. In a thrilling gold medal match against Ballarat, the team sealed victory in straight sets (3–0), completing a powerful redemption story after finishing as runners-up in 2024.
A huge congratulations to the squad on such a dominant performance — and especially to Amara Thompson and Lachlan Thompson, who were both named in the All-Star Seven team for their respective divisions. Amara was also awarded Best Middle, while Lachie took out Best Outside — a testament to their incredible impact across the weekend.
As part of their selection, both athletes received a Volleyball Victoria backpack, drink bottle, and a special embroidered All-Star Seven towel — a well-deserved recognition for two players who brought energy, skill, and leadership to every match.
Our men’s team also showed grit and determination, finishing in 8th place overall — a strong result in a highly competitive field.
We’re also proud to acknowledge the support of our club sponsors, including Dog Education Centre – Daycare, who generously sponsored Beth’s team over the weekend. Their contribution makes a big difference to our athletes and we’re so grateful to have them in our corner.
Finally, thank you to Volleyball Victoria for hosting another exceptional tournament. The Country Champs continue to be a highlight of our calendar, and we’re honoured to represent the Albury Wodonga region each year.
Bring on 2026!
